My Favorite Color :)

Day 26: Starburst FaveREDS.
Didn't know that I had picked up specific flavors of Starburst when I snatched these off the shelf at the check out line. Much to my surprise, all the best flavors were wrapped up in this package. We're got watermelon, strawberry, cherry, and fruit punch. The best ones. I'll let you in on a little secret......the Strawberry ones are by far the best flavor. These candies are definitely chewy and sticky. You will get them stuck all up in your teeth if you're not careful. I like to just let them sit on my tongue for a while. I smush them around in my mouth a while before chewing on them. Cuz I'm not lying, these things will definitely get stuck all over your teeth. The flavor of Starburst candies are fruity. The flavors are fun. I like the name of these. Even if I have never seen any stars bursting out of the first one! It's all good. They are bursting with some good flavor!

Another Good Day.

Day 25: Peanut M&M's.
These are always a good choice of candy. Peanut M&M's are the bomb. I couldn't keep my nieces and nephews away from these. They are delectable (that's for you, Niki). I love the initial crunch to open up the hard candy shell before diving in to the chocolate and peanut center. Of course, we've established the fact that I love salty and sweet candy, so why wouldn't I adore this? I love the little M&M guys too. They make the whole M&M image so much more appealing. These candies are kinda hard/crunchy when you first bite into them. I had to warm my little kiddies that they needed to be careful with these. Once you break the cover, you've entered into goodness. These could easily become an addiciton. I would NEVER need a one-pound bag of these. There would be no hope left for them....or me.

Will I die????

Day 24: POP ROCKS.
So I've heard before that you could explode from eating POP ROCKS with coke. And trust me, I totally believed it! Yes, let me go ahead and say that I've NEVER tried POP ROCKS before. I'm weird, right? That's what all my friends said when I tried this one. My sister, Lindsay, got me some POP ROCKS and presented me with them on dietitian Sunday night dinner. I was crazy excited to try these. And, of course, if anyone dares me to eat anything, I'm taking the dare. So, video cameras ready, I poured POP ROCKS in my mouth and chased it with some Coke Zero! Wait, wait, wait......I did this dare AFTER asking everyone at least 5 times if I for sure wouldn't die from this. Okay, let's return to the story. My mouth started popping and foaming up.....I almost started spewing candy and coke everywhere! It was AWESOME! I think these are the coolest things! They feel exactly the same way as Rice Krispies sound right after you pour milk over them. We totally got this on video....I may have to end up posting it as well. POP ROCKS rock!

Happy Campers

Day 23: Jolly Rancher Gummies.
Happy Campers, Jolly Ranchers. That goes together, right? Jolly ranchers have a distinct flavor, fruity and tart. I was interested to see truly how close these gummies matched up to the hard candies. The gummies are pretty big, and they are in the shape of the flavor they represent. There are several different flavors to choose from. Wait a second.....there are square pieces in here too. The flavors are still the original flavors, but the shapes are squares with JR inscribed on the front. Pretty cool if you ask me. These are really good gummies. They run a pretty close race with gummy bears. Good stuff.

Match made in Heaven

Day 22: Snickers Peanut Butter Squared.
Wow, these are perfect. Snickers bar with peanut butter......I couldn't make a better candy bar if I tried. Alright, so when you open the package, you find two little candy bar squares. So, if you only want a little bit of the candy, you have chosen a great advocate for that. Once you bite into these, you get the classic taste of the original snickers bar. BUT WAIT.....what's this??  Peanut butter too????  I'm in candy Heaven with this bar. This bar could have definitely been the death of both me and my roommate Walker. We tried this candy bar one night a few months ago with my other roomie, Hudman. Unfortunately, Hudman woke up with a stomach virus the next day. Guess who were two little scaredy cats freaking out about getting sick next? That's right...Walker and me. We never got sick thankfully. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Give me some sugar babies.

Day 21: Sugar Babies.
I love the name of these. It's awesome. Alright, first glance at these candies, they look like brown jelly beans. Shaped like them too. Texture is like them too. Wow, they are just like jelly beans. Caramel jelly beans. Here we go with the caramel again. It's okay, I would just have to be in the mood for it and have a glass of H2O by my side to wash it down. Caramel is a really sweet taste that doesn't get out of my mouth. So I have to have water. These things are sticking to my teeth really well. I can see how easy it would be to develop cavities from eating these. I think I really hit the nail on the head when I described these as caramel jelly beans....no description would fit these more perfectly.

There's a first time for everything

Day 20: Toblerone (Dark Chocolate).
Wow.....do. not. like. this. at. all.    Whew. I thought since it was dark chocolate, it would be good! These Toblerone bars are cool because the bar actually resembles a mountain range. My 3rd sister, Lindsay, got this for me. Thanks Lindz for helping me with my project! The chocolate is not smooth like in a candy bar. It's more dense and solid like a Hershey's bar. There are TINY chips of almond in it, but you can't taste those at all. All you taste is the BOLD dark chocolate flavor. It's very stout. I'm seriously turning my nose up as I try to finish off this one little piece. Definitely no second chance for this guy.

Full of Surprises!

Day 19: Milky Way Simply Caramel.
I love how everytime I anticipate trying a new candy, I have this preconceived notion that the candy will be full of flavors and textures that I have never tried! Take this Milky Way for example. I mean, it states plain and simple on the front "MILKY WAY SIMPLY CARAMEL". What should I expect besides caramel? I don't why I do this to myself, but I build myself up for some big surprise! As I taste this bar I realize....it is only chocolate and caramel. Big surprise.... not really. It tastes really good for simply being chocolate and caramel. I like candy bars with nougat in them, so I wasn't too crazy about this one. I just don't think I'm the biggest caramel fan. I wish it had some saltiness to it. And the caramel gets stuck in my teeth. But...somehow, I'm still eating this thing. I'll probably finish it off.

Auntie Anne's?

Day 18: Pretzel M&M's.

M&M's are the bomb. Let's go ahead and throw that out there. I'm glad they have ventured out and started putting new flavors inside them. These pretzel M&M's are bigger than they plain but smaller than the peanut. The feeling of them in my mouth is similar to Whoppers.....crunchy on the inside. I don't know if I really taste "pretzel" inside of these. It tastes more like crunchy peanut butter. The pretzels work well with the M&M's because it provides the proper balance of salty and sweet. As my roomie Hudman and our friend Ruby are trying them, they agree with the lack of true pretzel flavor. However, we all concur that these are tasty. The consistency of the inside does feel like the inside of a pretzel. That crunchy, particle-ly texture. These are good.  Overall, good.

On the corner of.....

Day 17: 5th Avenue.
I like how the name on the package looks like an actual street sign. Classic. It looks like an average candy bar from the first glance. Once I bit into the bar, it was crunchy/sticky. The inside looks like a Nutty Buddy bar. There are layers upon layers of peanut butter, toffee, and wafers (or so it tastes like). The package only says there is peanut butter, but I KNOW there is more in there than that!!!! The taste is really good, but I don't like how the "toffee" part is getting stuck in my teeth. I am using the "quotation marks" because I'm imagining that there is toffee in this bar even if there really isn't. We all like to dream. So, it's tasting like a Butterfinger/Nutty Buddy bar. It's pretty good, but not my favorite.

Whoop Whoop!!

Day 16: Whoppers.
I'll admit, I've had Whoppers before. Whoppers are thought of as a "movie candy" to me. Everyone loves to grab a box of Whoppers before settling down to a good theater movie. So, these are little balls of chocolate-covered malt. Like crunchy, sweet malt. The chocolate covering is soft, but they interior is seriously hard and crunchy. I don't know how I feel about the inside of these things. The malt is sweet, but it almost carries a creamy flavor that I don't know if I'm quite that fond of. I also don't know how I like the hardness/crunchiness of it. I think my best friend Cheri used to love these things. So, I wanna give a shout out to her while trying these! They really don't provide me with a "whopping" good time though.

Halloween

Day 15: SweeTarts.
I've always loved how bright and colorful the package is for the sweetart candy. It definitely makes me excited about eating Sweetarts!! These are hard candies, so I just let them simmer in my mouth for a while. They truly fit their name.....sweet tart. They start off with a tart flavor, but you get around to the sweetness in them. After a few seconds, you can chew them up. They break up into powdery particles, but they are not as powdery as Gobstoppers. SweeTarts remind me of Halloween.....no matter how small or how big your load of Halloween candy stock is at the end of the night, you can be pretty dang certain that you'll have some SweeTarts in your pumpkin bucket. Sweetarts have always been a staple candy in carnivals, Halloween, birthday parties, etc. These are definitely a good treat when you want just a little taste of candy but aren't in the mood for something heavy like chocolate.

Girl Raisins--

Day 14: Raisinets.

As I continue this challenge, I am coming to the realization that there are several foods I am not quite fond of. Raisins is definitely one of them. So, I would have never tried Raisinets before if I were eating candy on a whim. Today, however, I am eating them with a purpose. The individual candies look like pruned-up grapes with a coating of chocolate. I like that they still have the wrinkled look, even with the chocolate on top. These are soft and chewy. I can barely taste the raisin. I mostly taste chocolate. However, the little bit of raisin that I taste I don't really enjoy. These are okay. Not my favorite by any means.

HERSHEY'S

Day 13: Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar.
Who hasn't tried a Hershey's chocolate bar? These are classic. These can really satisfy a chocolate craving. I like that the bar is divided into 9 small pieces that you can break pieces off if you don't want the entire candy. My roomies like to put their candy in the refrigerator to make it cold before they eat it. Sometimes I don't like to do that because it makes the candy too hard. This Hershey's came straight out of the fridge, and it actually didn't break my teeth. So I'm glad about that. I think I would actually like the dark chocolate Hershey's better. Milk chocolate is fun, but not as fun as milk chocolate with peanut butter, or milk chocolate with nougat, or milk chocolate with almonds, or milk chocolate with caramel....things like that.

Slugworth's Secret

Day 12: The Everlasting Gobstopper.
If that doesn't sound intimidating, I don't know what does. Slugworth would have ruined Willy Wonka if he would have gotten his secret formula for the Everlasting Gobstopper. I'm so glad there are people like Charlie in this world. These gobstoppers are bright colors, which make them more fun. They aren't big like jawbreakers which I always think of when I picture gobstoppers. I just put a red one in my mouth. The initial flavor was kinda blah. However, like 10 seconds into it, the color and flavor changed to orange. Whoa, it's already breaking into pieces. This is crazy! I'm only like a minute into it, and I've already chewed the entire candy up. It turned to straight powder. That was weird. I thought they were supposed to be everlasting. What a rip off!!!!!! Nah, I'm kidding. I just tried another one, the green one. It soon turned to purple and the flavor to grape. I like the green/purple ones. Seriously though, I need you all to know that what just happened with this gobstopper just changed my entire view of candy. I always thought the Gobstoppers were these magical candies that weren't EVER supposed to disintegrate in your mouth. Boy was I wrong! My childlike views of candy are completely warped now.

Almond Joy's got nuts, Mounds don't.

Day 11: Almond Joy.
Like I've said before, I don't like a big taste of coconut, so I've never even wanted to try this candy bar. As I open the wrapper, I'm shocked to find that it's not even an actual candy bar. It's like two little bars. Wow, did I learn something new today! You can clearly see the almonds inside the bars, which I'm gonna love.
Oh, it's those little shreds of coconut in this thing. I was expecting like some creamy coconut nougat consistency inside. This is seriously shreds of coconut, a big almond, and a little touch of chocolate. It doesn't have a bad taste...you just really have to have an established comfort level with coconut before trying these. As you know, I don't like candy all that much, so I'm cutting this short. Since I can see the almonds just beneath the chocolate surface, I picked those out and ate them. Leaving the coconut...although it wasn't that bad.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Swedish Fish.

Day 10: Swedish Fish.
Strangely enough, I have always wanted to try this candy. It just looked really random. However, I've never gotten around to trying it.....until now. These little things look like minnows, or fishing lures. I'm excited about these.
Well, they are exactly how the front of the box describes them, soft and chewy. I'm chasing them down with H2O because they're getting stuck in my teeth. I like the flavor. It tastes like it has cherry artificial flavoring, which is pretty good. They should have made other flavors....that would have made it more exciting to eat these. This one flavor could get really boring after a few fish. Good thing I'm not really into candy and will only end up eating two of these. They're really getting stuck in my teeth....I like them, but I need some floss.

OUCH!!!!

Day 9: Skittles Fizzl'd Fruits.
Thanks Jordy for my day 9 candy!!! Let's start with the appearance. These look like regular Skittles, but with a covering of white crystal powder, resembling salt. You still have all the beautiful colors of the rainbow to choose from. I feel like my salivary glands kick into overdrive from the very moment I lay eyes on these little candies. They just LOOK sour.
OUCH. This candy definitely doesn't fizzle when eaten. It feels like I have thrown some sandpaper in my mouth....it hurts! My mouth starts burning, like I've just been electrocuted throughout my body but can only feel it on my tongue. I have to throw the candy around in my mouth for a few seconds before I can even let it settle. Once you get past those first few seconds of fizzle pain, the candy starts to open its sweet flavors. Then you can actually enjoy them. Or what's left of them. Now the roof of my mouth and my tongue are raw, much like the feeling I get when I eat Cap'n Crunch cereal before it gets soggy. Hurts.

Dorkis MaNorkis.

Day 8: Nerds.
How creative. Little crunchy rocks of candy. And they actually stick to your tongue, allowing you to lap them up like a cat laps up milk. I like these strawberry ones. They taste really fruity and delicious with a little kick of strawberry. These Nerds have a little tartness to them when they first hit your tongue, but as your start to chew them up, they get sweet. I kinda get the feeling I'm chomping on gravel, well fruity gravel, so it's pretty dang cool.
I like how they come in this tiny little box. You don't have to feel guilty about finishing off the entire thing because the portion is so small. I still won't finish them off completely. I'm not a big "candy" person, I'm more of a "chocolate" fan. Funny that I mention that after I just started this project. Oh well....so Nerds....why are they called Nerds? Do nerdy people really resemble pink gravel??  I wish I would have known that earlier. That clears a lot of things up about life.

Palm Trees.

Day 7: Coconut M&M's.
Well, my "3rd sister and 3rd brother-in-law I never had" got me the new Coconut M&M's to try for day 7. I was pretty sketched about trying this. Coconut is definitely not my fave, but hey, I've gotta try it, right? The individual M&M pieces are a little larger than the original M&M's, probably because they had to pack both chocolate AND coconut trees in them. There are only three colors in this pack: green, white, and brown. I guess the colors help portray the whole "coconut" theme, so that part was well planned.
These are actually pretty good. They just have a "hint" of coconut. I don't really mind if foods have a "hint" of coconut...but when they start "SCREAMING" it, I can't deal. They basically taste like the original M&M's, just a little bit sweeter. I probably would have never bought these for myself, but I'm glad I tried them.

Kit Kat Patty Wack

Day 6: KitKat
I found these in my refrigerator at the apt, so I decided to incorporate it in on day 6. KitKat's have always been a common candy bar during my childhood like Snickers and Reese's. They weren't always my fave, but I liked them. KitKat kinda gives me the feeling that I'm eating a Nutty Buddy Bar. Maybe because they both have wafer in them. Come on, Anna. Chocolate tends to make anything better though, even wafers. Good call, Nestle, good call. I like that the KitKat's break into little strips so that you can eat some now and save some for later. Or break some off for a bud....break me off a piece of that KitKat bar. Although it packs a small crunch, it's not enough to cause a disturbance in a library. The taste is chocolatey, yet wafery. Pretty much choco-wafery. I'll give Nestle mad props for the red packaging, just because red is my favorite color. KitKat's are pretty cool, I'd say.

First they're sour, then they're sweet.

Day 5: Sour Patch Kids
I laugh a lot. The world is a funny place. I'll tell you one thing that ranks pretty high on the comedy scale for me.....watching someone eat a sour food. Isn't it the funniest thing when you see someone scrunch up their face to sourness? I have to be the world's worst at making a demented face. I would put a picture of my face on here, but I may just embarrass the people that like to call me their friend. Anyways, so I was with my bestie, Janet, on day 5 of my challenge. We grabbed some Sour Patch Kids to try. And, of course, their logo is true..."first they're sour, then they're sweet". Whew!!!!! Were they sour!!!!! I was twitching my face up to the side and puckering my lips like I had just eaten a lemon. Sour Patch Kids are much softer and easier to chew than gummy bears. Once I finally survived that first salt/sour layer, I got to the sweet part. The insider was fruity and gummie bear-y, if you will. I like those sour candies for a little minute, until my tongue starts turning raw. Then it's not fun anymore. But to sum it all up, these candies are awesome at bringing out your best facial expressions.

City League Softball

Day 4: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
When I look at Reese's, I think about all the times I had to sell that box of assorted candy bars for city league softball. I absolutely LOVE Reese's pb cups. And one of my best friends gave me one today! It seems to be working out great with me receiving different candies each day! It helps make my decision of what I should try easier.  Anyways, let's talk about Reese's, shall we?
In my personal opinion, God created the very best combination when he decided to combine chocolate and peanut butter. I really don't know if there are many combinations that work better than these two. Reese's pb cup is the perfect mix of peanut butter and chocolate. You seem to get an equal taste of each flavor in every bite. Each cup has a soft, smooth layer of chocolate surrounding a generous center of peanut butter. I love the jagged edges around the outside of the cup, which help illustrate the "cup" look, kinda like a cupcake. Deliciousness.

CLASSIC.

Day 3: Haribo Happy Cola Gummi Candy.
So, as I've been cultivating this great idea of my candy excursion, I've gotten a lot of enthusiasm from friends. My friend, Charlie, brought these gummies to work today for me. So, of course, they are going into my blog. Haribo is a European gummi candy company with a total of 18 factories in Europe. And no, they don't give tours like Willy Wonka, I've already checked.
The gummies are shaped and dyed to resemble little coke bottles, which are adorable in my opinion. The gummies are pretty rubbery when you first start chewing on them. It takes a few seconds to actually feel like you're making any progress of chewing them up. They definitely have that "gummie" taste to them too, like most gummi bears/worms/etc do. But once you start letting other flavors arise, you realize that you can actually taste coke! It's pretty amazing! This is definitely an alternative for coca-cola addicts who are trying to cut back on the can. I honestly like the gummi bears more, but these were interesting.

MVEMJSUNP

Day 2: Mars bar. (The title is the acronym for the planets taken from Saved By The Bell)
I have already had the Mars bar before, but I couldn't help but try it second. (It's my personal favorite.) I have never really seen it around until just recently. I guess because it was just relaunched in 2010 after being discontinued in 2002. Impressive that I know that, right? Actually Google knew it. I just borrowed it.
The Mars bar tastes almost like a Snickers bar except for one main difference, THE ALMONDS TASTE LIKE ALMONDS!! (Willy Wonka reference for all you non-childlike fans). The nougat, caramel, and almonds make the perfect mix of goodies wrapped in a sweet chocolate blanket. Such a dream.

....It Starts.

Today starts my challenge. I chose to start with Werther's Original because it was one of the sweet memories I keep of my dad. My precious dad passed away ten years ago from complications of diabetes. A big memory I have of him was watching him suffer from sickness and lose the ability to enjoy food due to all the dietary restrictions placed on him from his disease. If I could have him back for a day, I would treat him to all his favorite foods, including Werther's.
I must say, I like Werther's myself. I am trying the hard candy version, so it's basically like a caramel peppermint is floating around in my mouth. The taste is truly rich and flavorful. I'm not one to chew the candy unless it's almost completely dissolved, so this is lasting a while. The packaging helps send the perfect message for this candy. Using the browns and yellows helps portray the creamy, milky, buttery taste of Werther's. I am a personal fan of sweets with water, so as I'm enjoying this candy, I'm sipping on a glass of H2O. What a great way to start this project.
